Battle of Midway |
How have I impacted history?
I impacted history because I was an Able Seaman aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise during the battle of Midway. I performed many duties such as deck operations, a wheels man, a lookout, fix machinery on the deck and maintain the ships integrity. If it wasn't for my well-rounded skills on the deck the ship may have never made more than our first battle.
How can you view World War II differently because of my experiences?
I played a important role in World War two because I was on top of the USS Enterprise because when oncoming attacks from the enemy were fired I was able to see every single one. If any of those attacks hit I repair the ships hull by painting sewing and fixing machinery. I view World War II differently because I realized how deadly these weapons are to mankind when the bombs impact hit the ship and I had to go repair it. It's hard to watch your fellow friends fly off in a plane with a good chance of never coming back.
- What is your view on the important events that occurred and famous people involved?
Admiral Spruance commanded my ship during the Battle of Midway.
- Midway was such a critical victory because they only lost one aircraft carrier at the Battle of Midway. That meant that four carriers were able to go on the offense during the Guadalcanal campaign.
- At Midway the Japanese naval march across the Pacific was stopped and never started again. Now the Japanese would have to react to the Americans, and not the other way around.
- The victory at Midway aided allied strategy worldwide.
